July 2009 - Man's Best Friend(s)

Our dogs are part of our family, even when they've done something so horrible like chew (eat) the siding OFF our house (yes that REALLY happened). No matter how upset you get with them for destroying things, that anger doesn't last long. We got Gwen for Blaze when he turned 1 years old. She is 1/2 Karelian Bear Dog and 1/2 Black Lab. We had just moved to Alaska and finally had a back yard that would be perfect for a dog to play. She was just 6 weeks old when we got her, and she was the most adorable thing. Blaze fell in love with her instantly. Jason and I were constantly finding chewed socks, shoes, repairing staircases that were chewed apart, and the biggest thing was eating the siding off the house. Not just one siding, it was more like 20. But, luckily she grew out of that once she was 2. Now, she is older and wiser, and just sticks with her bones. We wanted to get a 2nd dog so Gwen would have a playmate. We got Cass from Astoria, Oregon. She is 1/2 Chocolate Lab and 1/2 Pit Bull. We had her fly into Austin when she was 4 months old. She is the cutest thing in the world, which is a good thing, because she destroyed everything in sight the 1st year. But, she has grown out of that, and is going to be 2 years old in a few months. She is such a playful dog with ALOT of energy. We love our dogs, and I couldn't imagine our house without them!

"She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion." - Unknown
