April 2010 - Capitol

Living in Austin is amazing, and one of the many reasons is because it's the State's Capitol. For Faith's 1st grade field trip, they toured the Capitol and learned a few things about Texas history. It was really nice because the House of Representatives is not in session this year so it felt like we had the Capitol all to ourselves. My favorite part was when the class was in the House of Representative's room, and the tour guide was explaining how they make laws. The class role played and the vote was to try and pass having a longer summer vacation. All the kids had to give reasons why they were for or against the vote. Faith was the 1st kid to oppose it. She stated "We don't need longer summer breaks because we will not learn as much, and learning is important." I couldn't help but smile!

"Children are one third of our population and all of our future."
